What We Do
We protect and preserve members’ water rights, which were established prior to construction of the Central Valley Project (CVP) and Shasta Dam. The Sacramento River Settlement Contracts were established with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation to identify how much water contractors can divert on the Sacramento River; they are a fundamental operating component of the CVP and the statewide water system.
Our Mission is to…
-
Support
governmental advocacy and public education efforts related to the Contractors’ interests.
-
Address
the need for any renewals of the Sacramento River Settlement Contracts, any related consultations with state and federal resource agencies, and any related litigation or administrative proceedings.
-
Provide
ongoing technical analysis of Central Valley Project and State Water Project operations, and related discussions with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the State Water Resources Control Board, the California Department of Water Resources, and other federal and state agencies
-
Create
habitat for endangered fish such as the Chinook salmon and steelhead trout from the headwaters to the river mouth. Visit our Conservation page for more on the habitat restoration work underway.
-
Partner
with the National Marine Fisheries Service on a variety of species recovery actions and collaborative science investigations, including the Sacramento River Mainstem Integrated Management Plan, Sacramento River Science Partnership, Science Work Plan and water infrastructure planning.
-
Engage
in valley-wide planning to help meet the water supply needs in members’ service areas. This includes new surface water storage and conjunctive use projects such as Sites Reservoir, an environmentally beneficial, off-river reservoir that will create an additional 1.5 million acre-feet of storage for dry periods.
